NewsLens is a new way to identify and navigate local news. NewsLens identifies local news based on where the actual news happened or the location, the news article is talking about and provides a clean interface for users to navigate news stories. We crawl and index all local news happening in your area and users can locate news happening in their area by searching news based on either postal code or city. NewsLens will display news for each category and also display the approximate location of where news happened on the map.
NewsLens is currently open as a closed Alpha. What it means is that access to NewsLens is by invitation only. We have provided a signup page where you can leave your information. We will contact you as we open NewsLens for more users.
Change Location
You view news that happen in particular city by clicking on change
location link. It will pops up a small window with map and search text box. Type
in the location that you want to view the news, the search box gets auto
populated with possible values when you start typing the locaton. User can also
select city from the city tab. Clicking on "US Cities" will display cities in US
alphabetically, and click on UK Cities will display cities in UK. Click on
search button, the map will change to location you select, and give it a name of
the location. If you want this location to be a saved location, check the box
otherwise click on changed button. News will be displayed according to location
your select.

Customize View
You can customize what news you would like to see. By dragging the categories from left menu bar and drop it on the main page, news will appear for that category in a new box. News blocks can be closed by clicking on the X sign at the top right corner or each block. At the top right corner of each block also has an edit option, which you can change the number of headlines to be displayed in each block. Other information, for example, weather, traffic, events etc, can be added the same way on the page.
News Block
Every news category block has an image for expand and collapse the block.
Clicking expand/maximise image will expand headlines to show details of the news
article. By clicking on minimise/collpase icon will close all the headlines.
Clicking close will close the news block. Clicking on ..view more>> link will
take the user to the source news website.

News Details
When you expand the news block to see the article details, you can save
"bookmark" that news article for later reading. This can be performed by
clicking on Save Icon. Clicking push to mobile saves the news article to be
viewed on mobile when user goes to "http://www.newslens.com/mobile". You also
have an option of sending news as SMS to your mobile by providing mobile number
when asks. Clicking on email provies users with a box where they can type their
friends email address to send them the link. News can be recommended so others
reading the news can see how many others liked the news. This can be performed
by clicking the thumbs up and thums down buttons. This operation will change the
count of how many people liked News.

Menu Bar
Menu Bar on the left column can be sliding into view and out of view by
clicking on the "+add content"/"-close content" link or orange arrow next to the
menu.

News Clips
All News articles, user has saved, show in New Clips Links.

Mobile Clips
All News articles, user has sent to mobile show in Mobile Clips. These
links are available when user logs into NewsLens mobile.

Invite a Friend
All users can invite their friends to use NewsLens. Enter their email address and click Send Invite. Your friends will get an invitation to register for NewsLens.
Most Read, Mailed, Saved and Sent to Mobile Articles
User can view most popular articles that have been read, emailed, saved
and sent to movile by clicking on "Most Read, Mailed, Saved and Mobiled" menu.
Each activity type will be displayed in the tab format as example below.

User Suggested Source
User is able to suggest sources to NewsLens Team by clicking on "Suggest
a Source" menu on the left. User can enter URL in the box that is beging display
and click on "Submit". Make sure that the URL address begins with 'http://'.

Multiple Pointers on the same Location
If multiple headlines have the same location, marker on the map will
display them in the tab window.

You can change your nickname, your password or home pincode by going to Settings page on the top bar. In the Settings page, you can also set mobile key which can be used to access Newslens Mobile page.

Once logged into NewsLens, you can add "Invite a Friend" block to your
page. Enter the email address of your friend and click Send Invite. Your friend
will receive an email with an invitation to register for NewsLens.
